The Fear Factor

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself..."
—Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin D. Roosevelt made this statement in his inaugural address in 1933. If you read it, you will find it could be written for today's struggling economic times. Have we come full circle?

On a much more mundane note...I have decided to stop fearing my sewing machine. I've used it many times, and seem (even) to have found the perfect recipe for creating roman shades. I'm not a pattern follower, but if I have a vision in my head, I can usually piece something together reasonably well. But, for some reason, I live in fear of that bobbin thread. I hate it when it gets all wadded up and stuck and jammed...ERGH! I've had fabric for months waiting to be turned into pillows for Jake's room, but I wanted to add cording trim...something I've never done before. In a sudden burst of nighttime energy, I just went at it...and it worked! Cording added, pillows stuffed, and if you don't look too closely, they look quite professional! No bobbin disasters. So, it's stupid of me not to carry on because the bobbin MIGHT jam...right?

I have the same fears. But I have promised myself that by the end of this summer I will have sewn two dresses for Emma & Sofia.

Oh my gosh. My husband bought me a sewing maching for my 31st birthday, and I didn't take it out of the box for 2 WHOLE YEARS. I ended up taking a little community class and it gave me the jump start I needed. Now I use it weekly. Good luck

LOL. I can totally relate to your reluctance, Heather. I don't mix well with sewing machines. I am glad things came out so nicely - congrats!
