What is it about Mommy and Me type classes/gyms that just make me feel like a total mom dork? It seems like all the mommies joined some mommy club pre-birth and I just showed up late. On the days that I take Jake to some class or other, my husband always asks if any of the other mothers talked to me. Unfortunately, the answer is usually, "no" (although I DO try to strike up conversations!). And then, he laughs and says, "it's not you!". I'm beginning to wonder! Some moms just seem to hit the ground running, and I always assumed that with a baby would come new mommy friends. Let's just say, I'm still waiting.
Oh Heather! You're so funny. I know what you mean. It's never easy making new friends. Thank goodness for virtual friends.
ReplyDeleteI am mixed about the mommy and me classes. I have done a ton...Have one this AM! The bad ones are BAD!! Sometimes I think moms go crazy once theyre a mother..
ReplyDeleteSomeone once gave me a piece of advice that I have to remind myself of..Your "mom friends" should be someone you would have chosen BEFORE you had kids...Isnt that true!?
I think it's hard too! I always wish I had more mom friends but frankly don't have time for the classes because I work full-time. The best place I have met moms is at our swim class - but it did take a while!
ReplyDeleteThey don't know what they're missing out on - you seem so nice, I am sure you'd make a great friend. Have a terrific weekend.
ReplyDeleteI never seemed to make friends who had kids the same age as mine either. I just don't think I connected in the same way, because I wasn't a stay at home Mom. Maybe you just need to pick a new group.
ReplyDeleteWe moved 14 years ago here and I have 3 children, some of the Mom's that I met were actually because our kids became friends. Next time watch Jake and see who he becomes friends with!
ReplyDeleteI for one love Mom's who are unique and that feel dorky~ Embrace that!

You are not alone lady!
